John Abraham: Doctors wanted to amputate my leg after I smashed my knee during ‘Force 2’ -Exclusive! | Hindi Movie News

John Abraham is the veritable action hero of Hindi films. He’s had countless action films in his career and his muscular frame and athletic personality make him the perfect fit for these films. In a recent conversation with ETimes John revealed that his penchant for action and doing his own stunts once landed him in big trouble. So much so that John could’ve ended up losing one of his legs. He revealed, “Some stunts are very deadly. I remember during ‘Force 2’ I smashed my knee and I had to get three surgeries. I had gangrene in my right leg and the doctors wanted to amputate my leg. I said, ‘No, you can’t do that’. But thanks to my surgeon in Bombay, Dr Rajesh Maniar; he saved my knee.”

John continued the story and added, “This was about 7 years back and thankfully it is gone. I’m walking today, I’m squatting today and I’m even more flexible and faster than I was then. I love doing action. Of course, I take a break and I do something that’s different, but I love coming back to action.” He was quick to point out that even action heroes should know where to draw the line. He said “You need to be careful. You can’t have a false sense of bravado to prove to five people on a set that you can jump from here to there. At times you get hurt and then you become a little more cognizant about the dangers.”

John also recalled a story from the sets of ‘Dishoom’ where he had to pull off a dangerous stunt hanging outside a helicopter with Varun Dhawan hanging perilously outside. He recalled, “I was so worried because I love Varun. His brother and our ‘Dishoom’ director Rohit came to me and told me, ‘John, please be careful. Please look out for Varun’. In the stunt, I was hanging out of the chopper and Varun was tied to my body and he was dangling outside. The chopper was flying ahead at full speed, it was a scary scene. But in that situation, I had to take over and play the role of someone who makes sure everything goes fine.”

He also mentioned that if he would plan a bigger and better sequel for his new film ‘Attack’, he would cast two specific actors from Bollywood. He said, “If I had to cast for the sequel of ‘Attack’ I would ask Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff because they’re fantastic at what they do. That would be exciting.” When the conversation veered towards a film that could feature all Bollywood action stars in a single film, John explained, “I’d love to do a film like that. I’d love for everybody to come together. But I think as an industry where we lack is unity and that’s something you’ve got to learn from the South. They are cohesive, and that’s fantastic. But, if I could be a binding factor for everybody coming together, and a lot of young actors tell me that ‘John with you, we’re not insecure. We feel so happy because you’re so collaborative. We know you’ll put us before you’, so if that sense of security comes from being with me, I’d like to be that binding factor for all actors to come together. Forget about Ocean’s Eleven, we’ll do Ocean’s Twenty and all of us can come together and have fun.”
