Ranbir told a news portal that Rishi was shooting for ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ in Delhi when his blood report confirmed that he had Leukemia. The young actor, along with a family friend, went to the capital city to break the news to the veteran star and also the fact that they had to leave for the US for treatment.
Ranbir revealed that Rishi’s first reaction was, ‘What about Sharmaji Namkeen?’. The veteran actor told him that he cannot leave the film midway. However, Ranbir added that they spoke to the producers, convinced them and left for the US the very next day. The ‘Brahmastra’ actor also added that for the one year treatment in America, all Rishi did was talk about the film.
After Rishi’s unfortunate demise, the makers of the film considered having Ranbir shoot the remaining scenes wearing prosthetics. However, this idea was tried and abandoned. Then, the makers roped in Paresh Rawal who completed the remaining portion of the movie. ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’ has two different actors playing Sharmaji, a retired widower who takes up cooking.
The film is all set to release on March 31 on an OTT platform. It also stars Juhi Chawla, Satish Kaushik and others in key roles.
