What is the reason behind the cancellation of the Tesla Model S Plaid+?
Tesla has been teasing its Model S Plaid+ since 2019 and Musk announced late last month that delivery of the vehicle would be delayed by one week as it requires one more week of tuning.
Musk said in a tweet: “Plaid+ is canceled. No need, since Plaid is so good.”
Tesla Model S Plaid+ was supposed to push the car’s performance and battery range to the next level.
It was said to produce 1,100 horsepower, which would’ve further shortened 0-100kph times.
It is also reported that the battery range will increase from 390 miles to 520 miles or 837 kilometergreater than that of any current production EV.duction EV currently on sale.
Musk says the Model S Plaid’s performance and range are good enough.
Model S Plaid’s tri motors make 1,006 horsepower, propelling it from 0-100kph in just 1.99 seconds. According to Elon Musk, the Model S Plaid will reach a top speed of 200mph (321kph) “with the right tyres.”
As a matter of fact, the company claims that the Model S Plaid will be the fastest production car ever made of any kind.
However, the recently released Rimac Nevera Hypercar, with a 0-100kph time of 1.85 seconds, has set the benchmark quite high.
New battery technology will improve the range and efficiency of the Model S Plaid+.
According to Tesla, technical details are yet to be confirmed, but the new thermal architecture will provide faster charging and greater power and endurance in all conditions.

As for the interior, the new steering wheel seems to be based on the one used on aircraft.
Tesla refers to it as a stalkless steering yoke because it has no indicator stalks.
Among the other changes are the brand new 17-inch widescreen display, which provides exceptional responsiveness and can be tilted from left to right to provide access to passengers and drivers.
For those in the backseat, there is an 8.0-inch infotainment screen.
A software update includes an upgrade to the infotainment system with 10 teraflops of processing power.
This is the equivalent of a modern game console.
For those who really take their music seriously, Tesla offers a 22-speaker, 960W audio system as standard on the Model S Plaid.
Model S Plaid+ is now the victim of the worst kind of cancel culture.
A year from its production date, Elon Musk has scrapped the ultimate expression of the automaker’s flagship sedan.
In contrast to the Tesla Model S Plaid (no “+” at the end), the Plaid+ would be a sedan supercar with mind-melting speed and more range than you could shake a stick at.
That translates to a quarter-mile time of perhaps under 9 seconds and a range of 520 miles.
This was probably something we should have expected.
The production date of the vehicle was pushed back from late 2021 to mid 2022, and its starting price increased by $10,000 to $149,990 in March. Tesla’s online design studio no longer offers the Plaid+ option since a couple of weeks ago.
The only excuse Musk provided in a tweet was that the battery is “just so good.”.
We can imagine there are several reasons for the change, such as supply of 4680 batteries or additional engineering costs for a relatively small amount of sales.
