Vivo’s first foldable smartphone is here. The BBK-owned smartphone brand has finally launched its first foldable smartphone — Vivo X Fold. Design-wise, it is similar to what we’ve seen in Samsung Z Fold series smartphones or the recently-launched Oppo Find X.
The Vivo X Fold is an inward foldable smartphone which carries a smaller 6.53-inch AMOLED display at the front and the clamshell opens to reveal the bigger 8.03-inch foldable display. The display, however, is bigger compared to the Galaxy Z Fold and in fact the outer display’s dimensions are also more like a regular smartphone.
Both the displays are AMOLED, support 120Hz refresh rate and HDR10. The foldable display uses LTPO2 panel which allows it to refresh between 1Hz and 120Hz to save some power.
As far as foldable display technology is concerned, it uses the Schott Ultra Thin Glass (UTG), same as Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series phones. According to the reports, Vivo has claimed 300,000 folds for the hinge. According to the company, the X Fold is the first smartphone to come with dual 3D ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner.
Vivo X Fold: Specifications
In terms of other specifications, there’s nothing surprising, the smartphone offers flagship-grade specs. Vivo X Fold is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the flagship chipset from Qualcomm and it is paired with 12GB RAM.
The foldable is backed by a 4600mAh battery which isn’t that big considering the display size. However, it is big enough as per foldable phones’ standard. Also, the phone supports 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging. It also supports 10W reverse wireless charging.
Vivo has also gone with a flagship-grade camera specs in X Fold. The smartphone comes with 50MP f/1.8 primary sensor with OIS, a 12MP f/2.4 2x telephoto lens, an 8MP 5x periscope zoom lens with up to 60x digital zoom and a 48MP ultra wide sensor.
Like the other Vivo flagship phones, the X Fold too comes with Zeiss optics and branding around the camera housing. Both inner and outer display features a punch hole that houses 16MP sensors.
Vivo X Fold: Price and availability
Vivo has launched the smartphone exclusively in China for now. The smartphone will be available in three colour options — Black, Blue and Gray and will be available at CNY 8,999 (approximately Rs 1,07,207).
So far, there’s no information available when Vivo will announce the X Fold globally.
