Clarence Thomas has been hospitalized, the court said in a statement Sunday.

Thomas, 73, admitted to Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington

Part of the Johns Hopkins health system, on Friday night

Investigations revealed he had an infection, he is being administered intravenous antibiotics.

Thomas' symptoms are receding, and he is likely to be released in the next few days.

The court is operating with a 6-3 conservative majority

Court work is being disrupted by Thomas' absence

The health and well-being of members of the Supreme Court is always closely watched

Especially for those judges whose judicial philosophy is controlled by the White House.
