Mariah Carey's holiday smash hit "All I Want for Christmas Is You" has been sued.
Andy Stone claims he wrote a song with the same title five years earlier.
Stone, who lives in Mississippi, filed the lawsuit in federal court in New Orleans
For copyright infringement and misappropriation, the lawsuit seeks at least $20 million in damages,
Carey and Walter Afanasieff, as well as Sony Corporation of America and Sony Music Entertainment.
He co-wrote and recorded his version of "All I Want for Christmas Is You" in 1989 under his artist name, Vince Vance.
In 1993, the song was heavily played and "made appearances on the Billboard Music Charts."
Carey's version appeared on her "Merry Christmas" album in 1994.
With over a decade of radio and streaming play, the song has essentially become a Christmas anthem.
